Old Town Historic District
Originally the site of the town of Fernandina, Old Town has the unique distinction of being the last Spanish city platted in the Western Hemisphere. Retaining the 1811 plat, as well as the historic homes in the area, is of special importance.
In addition, the Amelia Island Lighthouse, the Peck Center, and the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home are individually designated historic district sites.
Properties within the historic districts are protected through design guidelines, which are administered by the Historic District Council. In addition, the Historic District Council is charged with administering the CRA Design Guidelines for projects located in the City's Community Redevelopment Area.
