Adult/Senior Programming
The Parks and Recreation Department provides the following programs for Adults and Seniors:
Outdoor Walking Club
Monday-Friday from 9:00-10:00am. Meeting locations each day:
• Monday: MLK, Jr. Center
• Tuesday: Central Park by the Veterans’ Memorial
• Wednesday: Egans Creek Park
• Thursday: Main Beach Park by the Skate Park
• Friday: Simmons Park
Indoor Walking Club
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at Peck Gym. 12:00-1:00pm. Put in some steps around the basketball court.
Board Games, Crosswords, & Coffee.
Mondays from 11:00am-12:00pm and Fridays from 1:00-2:00pm at the MLK, Jr. Center auditorium. A variety of games and crosswords from which to choose.
Paint & Sketch
Mondays from 2:00-3:00pm in the Peck Center Instructors Studio in the outside courtyard. Painting and sketching supplies provided.
Badminton
Tuesdays from 10:00-11:00am at Central Park open space and Thursdays from 11:00am-12:00pm at Peck Gym. All equipment provided.
Crafts & Knitting
Tuesdays from 2:00-3:00pm in the Peck Center Instructors Studio in the outside courtyard. Crocheting supplies provided.
Hip Hop Abs Co-ed Exercise Classes
Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00pm at the MLK, Jr. Auditorium.
Cards & Mahjong
Wednesdays from 11:00am-12:00pm at the MLK, Jr. Center auditorium. Playing cards, mahjong sets, and card tables and chairs provided.
Adult Indoor Court Games
Wednesdays from 11:00am-12:00pm at Peck Gym. Basketball on the west end of the Gym, cornhole and badminton on the east end. All equipment provided.
Line Dancing
Thursdays from 5:00-6:00pm at the MLK, Jr. Center auditorium. Space available for people to practice their routines. Sound system provided.
Book Club
Fridays from 11:00am-12:00pm at the MLK, Jr. Center auditorium. Choose a different book to discuss every month.
Morning Beach Run & Volleyball
Saturdays at Main Beach. Meet at the beach volleyball courts. Beach run from 7:30-8:00am, volleyball from 8:00-10:00am. Pick a 20-30 minute running route, then stay and play volleyball. Volleyballs provided.
Adult Soccer & Yard Games
Sundays from 1:30-3:30pm at Peck Field, 516 South 10th Street. Play soccer, cornhole, and badminton. All equipment provided.
Quarterly Senior Meet and Greet
Senior Meet & Greet is our informal monthly potluck luncheon, held quarterly (February, June, August, and December) at various locations, including the MLK, Jr. Recreation Center, Atlantic Recreation Center, and City of Fernandina Beach Golf Course clubhouse. It is open to anyone ages 55 years and older. This is a great opportunity to meet other people who like to socialize and be active! A guest speaker or entertainment is featured before lunch. We ask that all attendees RSVP at www.perfectpotluck.com and let us know what you will bring for the lunch buffet (categories are appetizer, main dish, side dish, dessert, and beverage). Adult 4-on-4 Flag Football, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball Leagues
Adult sports leagues are offered seasonally throughout the year. For more information, contact Jason Brown: jbrown@fbfl.org
Adult Pickleball League
This sport is a combination of tennis and ping pong, played on a badminton-sized court with a net close to the ground, where players use paddles and a small wiffle ball. Find out more at www.pickleball.com or www.usapa.org.
Pickleball is played at the Central Park Pickleball Courts, behind Tennis Courts 3 & 4 at the corner of South 13th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Six (6) lighted pickleball courts are available until 10:00pm daily. The gates at the courts are unlocked. Restrooms, a water fountain, and AED are nearby.
For information about the Fernandina Beach Pickleball Pirates, a community interest group that provides equipment during SCHEDULED PLAY (balls and loaner paddles) , follow Fernandina Beach Pickleball Pirates on Facebook. Petanque
Amelia Island Boules Club holds petanque pick-up games Saturdays from 9:30am - Noon and Wednesdays starting at 3:30pm on the Fernandina Beach petanque courts at the south end of the downtown marina (by the boat trailer parking lot). During the summer, pick-up games are played from 9:30am - Noon at the Central Park courts (west end of the park, near the Veterans Memorial). The public is always welcome to join in!
Ping Pong Tournaments
Ping Pong is held Tuesdays from 9:00am - Noon and Thursdays from 4:30 - 7:00pm at the Atlantic Recreation Center Auditorium. All skill levels welcome. Loaner paddles and ping pong balls provided. For more information, call 904-310-3350.
